Reinhart Named Duke Student-Athlete of the Week

DURHAM, N.C. – After leading the Duke women's cross country team to a fourth-place team result in the ACC Championships last Friday in Cary, N.C., senior Michaela Reinhart has been tabbed the Duke Student-Athlete of the Week.
Reinhart, a product of Lexington, Ky., logged a personal-record time of 20:19.3 to finish fourth overall in the 6K race, earning her third career All-ACC honor. Her fourth-place finish marked the best result by a Blue Devil runner since Juliet Bottorff captured the ACC individual crown in 2013.
"I think many girls on the team are capable of doing the exact same," said Reinhart. "Our coaches talk a lot about doing little things each day that can lead to breakthroughs – things just happened to line up on Friday and it was very satisfying. It was cool to see work that tons of people have put in – coaches, teammates, trainers – all come to fruition in a successful performance, so I feel like I can take very little of the credit! At the end of the day, I'm just super grateful to be healthy and running."
Reinhart has been impressed with the team's progress this season, as each race the women ran in produced at least two top-10 finishers.
"The team has come so far, both in terms of performance and in terms of team culture," said Reinhart. "We're so much more relaxed now before races, which I think has a direct correlation as far as performance. The more relaxed we are, the better we run."
Reinhart has enjoyed a stellar cross country career since arriving in Durham, as she received 2019 All-Southeast Region and 2019 All-ACC Academic Team honors. She was also selected All-Southeast Region as a sophomore in 2018, while earning All-ACC status for her finishes at the conference meet in 2017 and 2018 before adding another honor this past Friday.
Friday's ACC Championships wrapped up Duke's 2020 fall schedule. Information on additional postseason meets, including a potential NCAA Championships event, will be released at a later date.
