DURHAM, N.C. – Duke rowing head coach
Megan Cooke Carcagno has announced the team's preliminary schedule for the 2021 spring season.
"With the loss of last spring's racing season, we couldn't be more excited to hit the road, put on a uniform and finally line up," Cooke Carcagno said. "We expect there to be many challenges and it won't look like racing seasons of the past, but we're confident that we'll put in the work and ready ourselves to leave our best on the racecourse. We've done a lot of side-by-side work this fall, and it's clear our team loves racing."
After nearly a year-long competition drought due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Blue Devils will finally return to action when they travel to Clemson, S.C., for the Carolina Cup on March 6, 2021. The Carolina Cup was the team's only recorded meet during the shortened 2020 spring campaign, but it did not fail to provide a highlight as Duke came away with a first-place result for the fourth consecutive year.
The team will then head north to Charlottesville, Va., for a competitive weekend at the Virginia Invite on Friday, March 26 and Saturday, March 27. The next week, Duke will represent the Atlantic Coast Conference at the Big Ten-ACC Double Dual in Columbus, Ohio, on Saturday, April 3.
The Blue Devils will race the Big Ten again on Saturday, April 17 and Sunday, April 18, when the team travels to Cincinnati, Ohio for the Big Ten Invite. Following the pair of trips to the Midwest, Duke will stay local to co-host the Lake Wheeler Invite in Raleigh, N.C., on Friday, April 23 and Saturday, April 24. At the inaugural Lake Wheeler meet in 2019, the Blue Devils took first place with 99 points in a field of nine teams.
The schedule will then bring Duke back to Clemson for the ACC Championship on May 14 and 15, two years after a memorable conference meet in which the Blue Devils placed second overall and captured the first gold medal in program history in the Varsity-4 race. The NCAA Championships are slated to take place Friday, May 28 through Sunday, May 30, in Sarasota, Fla.
Duke held the No. 16 national ranking in the CRCA/USRowing Coaches Poll at the time of the season's cancellation this past March.
More information on the 2020-21 schedule, including opponents and race times, will be released at a later date. For more news relating to Duke rowing, follow the Blue Devils on
