Breaking Down the Blue Devils
- The Blue Devils play their fourth game of the abbreviated 2020 fall season Friday when they travel to NC State for a second meeting in three weeks with the Wolfpack.Â
- Duke is 1-2-0 overall and 1-1 in ACC play after its 2-0 setback to the Tar Heels. The Blue Devils defeated NC State in the season opener.
- Pulisic, Matthias Frick and Ian Murphy are the veterans anchoring the defense. They have a combined 145 starts and will be crucial in Duke's success this season. Rookie Antino Lopez, Amir Daley and Lewis McGarvey join the veteran crew. Frick, Murphy and McGarvey are the lone Blue Devils to play every minute this season.
- Duke's three goals have come from a different player as Jack Doran, Daniel Wright and Nick Pariano all have goals. Conor Kelly and Peter Stroud have assists.
- Eighteen different Blue Devils have seen action this season, including seven of the 11 freshmen.

Series History
- The Blue Devils and Wolfpack meet for the 83rd time Friday night. Duke holds a commanding 53-21-8 lead in the series, including the thrilling double overtime win two weeks ago.
- Â The Blue Devils last posted consecutive wins over NC State in 2015 and 2016. Duke lost to the Wolfpack in Raleigh last year in the ACC Tournament, but is 19-12-5 overall when playing at NC State's home field.

About NC State
- NC State is in search of its first points on the year after losing to Wake Forest, 4-1, last weekend. The Wolfpack are 0-2 overall and have allowed five goals on their opponents' 18 shots.
- Alex Bautista scored the lone goal and AJ Seals has the assist. The Wolfpack have 16 shots on the year, four of which have come on frame. Leon Krapf has played every minute in goal and has two saves.

Last Time Out
- North Carolina scored in the first five minutes to put the Blue Devils on their heels and then added a goal late in the second half to upend Duke, 2-0. The Blue Devils created quality chances off of numerous set pieces against the Tar Heels, but couldn't quite capitalize.

- Rookie Peter Stroud tapped a loose ball to Nick Pariano in the final minute of the second overtime and Pariano curled his left-footed shot around a pair of Wolfpack defenders to give Duke the 1-0 victory in the ACC opener.

Stroud the Workhorse
- While, Matthias Frick, Lewis McGarvey and Ian Murphy all have played every minute this season, Peter Stroud has proved to be a workhorse in the middle of the field.
- Having seemingly boundless energy, Stroud has played all but 19 minutes as a central midfielder. The rookie has run upwards of eight miles in games this season and provided the game-winning assist with tired legs against the Wolfpack two weeks ago.

On the Road
- Duke heads to Raleigh for its second road trip of the 2020 fall season. The Blue Devils are 0-1 this season with a setback to Kentucky to open the year.
- Overall, on the road Duke is 29-44-9 under head coach John Kerr and 19-26-6 in ACC regular season road contests.

Second Half and Set Piece Struggles
- While only three games into the season, Duke has struggled at times in getting its offense going in the second half. The Blue Devils have just seven shots in the second period this season, compared to their opponents' 19.
- Duke is being outscored 3-0 in the second 45 minutes as it searches for that finishing pass and touch this season.
- In addition, Duke has 13 corner kicks on the season and earned a host of dangerous free kicks againtst UNC, but couldn't quite capitalize.
- On the defensive end, four of Duke's six goals allowed have come off of set pieces. Kentucky scored twice on corner kicks, while North Carolina capitalized on a pair of free kicks.
