DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke swimming and diving programs were named Scholar All-America Teams and led the Atlantic Coast Conference in men's and women's grade point average for the fall 2019 semester, the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America announced on Wednesday.
Â
"We are immensely proud of this team and the fact that they achieve at such a high level in both the classroom and the pool," head coach
Dan Colella said.
Â
The Blue Devils' women's team earned a team GPA of 3.61 while the men's team earned a GPA of 3.50, both leading the ACC in their respective genders. The Duke men have tied for the lead or led the ACC in fall semester team GPA for five consecutive years.
Â
Colella's squad was one of eight programs nationally and the only conference team to have the men's and women's team GPAs at or above 3.50 and 3.60, respectively. In addition, Duke was one of eight ACC institutions to have both the women's and men's teams receive the academic honor.
Â
Overall, a record 762 swimming and diving teams representing 480 institutions were tabbed Scholar All-America teams for the Fall 2019 semester. To earn the honor, teams were required to post a grade point average of 3.0 or higher for the fall semester.
The Blue Devils return to action Saturday, Feb. 1, at noon, hosting North Carolina at Taishoff Aquatics Pavilion in the regular season finale.
