PHOENIX, Ariz. -- Former Duke men's golf All-American
Alex Smalley has qualified for his first career PGA Tour event and will tee it up at the Waste Management Phoenix Open that begins Thursday at TPC Scottsdale.
Smalley, a 2019 Duke graduate that led the United States to a Walker Cup victory and graduated as the Blue Devils' career scoring leader, will make his second PGA Tour start and his first as a professional.
Smalley is one of three former Blue Devils in the Phoenix Open field, joining Tour veterans
Adam Long and
Kevin Streelman. Smalley is off the first tee Thursday at 9 a.m. local time. Streelman is off No. 1 at 11:55 a.m., while Adam Long tees off No. 1 at 12:35 p.m.
After shooting a 67 in Monday's qualifier at McCormick Ranch Golf Club, Smalley secured one of the last three spots in the Phoenix Open. This marks his second PGA Tour start and his first as a professional. His first was a spot in the 2017 U.S. Open, where he missed the cut by just two strokes.
Smalley was a PING All-American at Duke and his four-year scoring average at Duke was 71.32, which set a program record. His 70.35 average as a senior also stands as the program's single-season record.
Live coverage on Golf Channel airs Thursday and Friday from 3 p.m.-7 p.m. ET. Weekend coverage airs on Golf Channel from 1 p.m.-2:45 p.m. ET and on CBS from 3 p.m.-6 p.m. ET.
