Breaking Down the Blue Devils
- Duke looks to regain its winning ways in Chapel Hill this Friday. The Blue Devils have lost the past three games, all to current top 10 programs. The Blue Devils dropped out of the coaches' poll this week, but remain at No. 23 in the College Soccer News rankings.
- Senior Daniele Proch is the headliner on offeense with six goals and 13 points overall. He is halfway to his total of 26 points last season after only seven game. Classmate Max Moser has been lethal off the bench in a couple games this season and has four assists overall. In all, six different Duke players have a goal this season.
- Defensively, Duke started the season with shutouts in three of the first four games before allowing eight goals in the past three setbacksd.  Sergi Nus is the anchor at center back, while Ian Murphy and Hassan Pinto have manned the flanks. Murphy is out against the Tar Heels after a red card at Clemson. In goal, Will Pulisic has an ACC-best 30 saves and a 1.29 goals against average.

Series History
- Duke and North Carolina are meeting for the 93rd time in the long history of the rivalry. The Tar Heels lead the series 47-35-10 and are 10-1-2 since 2008. The Blue Devils last won in 2014, while the most recent victory in Chapel Hill was Oct. 2, 1999.
- While the Tar Heels have controlled the rivalry recently, all of the games have been incredibly close. Only once has a game been decided by more than a goal – a 2-0 North Carolina win in 2008. In fact, since 1990 only seven of the 36 games have been decided by more than one goal with Duke owning the most lopsided win - a 4-0 ACC Tournament victory in 1999.
- Since 1999, North Carolina has been ranked in the top 25 in all but four games and in the top 10 for all except nine of the 25 meetings in the past 20 seasons. The Tar Heels' No. 14 ranking is the lowest when playing the Blue Devils since being ranked 16th in 2008.

About North Carolina
- North Carolina heads into Friday's contest with a 4-1-2 overall record. The 14th-ranked Tar Heels' lone loss came Sept. 1 against now No. 12 UCF. They are 2-0-0 in league action with wins over Virginia Tech and Notre Dame.
- Alex Rose and Jelani Pieters are the engines to the offense, combining for six goals and 18 points overall. Jack Skahan has seven points. The Tar Heels average 2.14 goals per game to rank third in the ACC and 23rd nationally.
- In the defensive third, North Carolina has allowed only five goals in seven games for a 0.71 goals allowed per game. Alec Smir has started all seven games in goal and has 16 saves and a 0.68 goals against average. UNC is holding teams to only 7.4 shots per game and just three on goal per outing.
