DURHAM, N.C. – As the Blue Devils prepare for their first fall action of the year this weekend, the Duke women's lacrosse program shines the spotlight on freshman midfielder
Olivia Navaroli of Skaneateles, N.Y.
Navaroli arrived at Duke after garnering All-America recognition from US Lacrosse during her senior season at Skaneateles High School. She was also tabbed the Citizen Player of the Year after recording 63 goals, 43 assists, 184 draw controls and 154 ground balls during her final campaign.
For her high school career, Navaroli was twice named to the All-Central New York Team and earned first team all-league honors all four years. She totaled 148 goals, 102 assists, 391 draw controls and 457 ground balls and as a sophomore, helped her Skaneateles squad claim the New York state title in double overtime.
A member of the Outlaw Ladies club team, Navaroli was named to Inside Lacrosse's Power 100 Watch List earlier this week.
Navaroli is one of 11 Blue Devils in the
freshman class, which was ranked
No. 6 in the country Tuesday in Inside Lacrosse's 2019 Recruiting Issue.
Navaroli and the Blue Devils kick off the fall portion of the schedule this weekend, traveling to nearby High Point, N.C., for a pair of Saturday contests. Duke faces Davidson at 10:15 a.m. and High Point at 11:30 a.m.
Why did you choose Duke?
Olivia Navaroli: I love the mix of excellent academic and athletic success. Also, the people I have met at Duke during the process have been nothing short of amazing. It is a culture that I wanted to be a part of.
What is your favorite lacrosse memory?
ON: Winning the New York State Championship in double-overtime with my high school team my sophomore year.
When did you start playing lacrosse?
ON: When I was five and I used a boy's stick for the first two years because they were my brothers' hand-me-downs.
What are your goals for your collegiate career?
ON: Be a constant source of energy while upholding Duke's undeniable legacy.
Who has had the greatest impact on your life?
ON: My parents. They never fail to impress me with their hard work and commitment to our family.
