AUSTIN, Texas – Members of the Duke track & field program kicked off competition at the 2019 NCAA Outdoor Championships Thursday evening at the Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin, Texas.
Members of the sprint squad highlighted Duke's first day of competition by collecting second team All-America honors. India Lowe, MacKenzie Kerr, Kelcie Simmons and Brittany Aveni clocked in at 3:35.71 to take 14th overall in the prelims.
Senior Stefani Vukajlovic rounded out her Duke career this evening in 18th overall in the women's hammer throw competition. Vukajlovic recorded a mark of 61.79m and leaves her mark in the Duke record books as the school-record holder in the hammer throw.
Sophomore Lauren Hoffman competed in the preliminary round of the 400m hurdles and placed 19th in a time of 58.79.
Also competing on the track in her first trip to NCAAs was freshman Monica Hebner as one of only three freshmen to qualify for the 10000m. Hebner clocked in at 35:28.28 to place 21st.
Senior Nati Sheppard rounded out Duke's Friday field events as she tied for 19th in the pole vault competition with a height of 4.05m. Sheppard closes her Duke career this evening and owns the fourth-best height in Duke outdoor history, 4.23m.
Duke will continue competition at the NCAA Championships Friday beginning at 3:30 p.m. (ET), with Erin Marsh in the heptathlon.
