JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Senior Nati Sheppard and sophomore Lauren Hoffman became the fourth and fifth Blue Devils to punch their tickets to the 2019 NCAA Outdoor Championships Friday with their performances at the NCAA East Preliminary Round.

In the 400m hurdles, Hoffman clocked in the second-fastest time in Duke outdoor history as she crossed the finish line in 57.92, a 0.41 second improvement, to place 12th overall in the quarterfinals.

Sheppard had similar success in pole vault as she tied for 11th out of 48 competitors. Sheppard posted a height of 4.07m and will join Hoffman in Austin at NCAAs for the first time in their Duke careers as individuals.

Sophomore Alex Miley came one spot short of booking a trip to Austin in the 3000m steeplechase. However, Miley has posted personal-best times throughout the season and this evening, Miley crossed the finish line in 8:49.05 to take 13th overall, which is the fourth-fastest time in program history.

Additionally, sophomore Erin Marsh qualified for Saturday's quarterfinals in the 100m hurdles by clocking in a time of 13.49 in first round competition. Marsh will compete in the quarterfinals Saturday at 7:05 p.m., in hopes of punching her ticket to NCAAs.

Duke will close out the final day of the NCAA East Preliminary Round Saturday in Jacksonville, Fla., at 2:45 p.m., beginning with the men's shot put.
