DURHAM, N.C. – Freshman Amelia Shunk of the No. 17 Duke rowing team was named the Duke Student-Athlete of the Week, after captaining the V4 boat that made history at the ACC Championship over the weekend in Clemson, S.C.
Shunk and the V4 boat of Rani Duff, Olivia Von Stauffenberg, Anne Klok and Tara Christensen won the gold medal on Saturday with a time of 7:22.300, Duke's first goal medal at the ACC Championship in school history. Shunk, who rows stroke for the V4 boat, helped guide the Blue Devils to nearly a five second win over second place Syracuse, and gave Duke the overall lead with just two Grand Finals to go. She was named ACC Freshman of the Year – as voted on by the ACC coaches – for her performances throughout the season and is Duke's first Freshman of the Year since Katie Dukovich in 2013.
The Blue Devils next travel to Indianapolis, Ind., and compete in the NCAA Championship May 31-June 2 at the Indianapolis Rowing Center at Eagle Creek Park, Ind.
