NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. – Junior
Kelly Chen continued her streak of solid performances in the singles main draw of the 2019 ITA Fall National Championships Friday afternoon by advancing to the quarterfinals with a huge win over the No. 1 overall seed in the tournament, Elysia Bolton of UCLA.
Chen, tabbed No. 5 by the ITA, defeated No. 16 Bolton in straight sets (6-4, 6-4) to advance to the quarterfinals of the singles main draw.
The Cerritos, Calif., native now owns a fall ledger of 14-4 overall and is 5-3 against nationally ranked foes. Friday's victory also marks the second win over a top-20 opponent this season.
Chen will now face No. 17 Anna Turati (Texas) Saturday.
