DURHAM, N.C. – Duke swimming and diving head coach
Dan Colella sat in front of the camera this week to recap the Blue Devils' success in Boston last weekend.
In the Blue Devils' first trip to the northeast, Duke went undefeated to improve to 5-1 in women's and 5-2 in men's. Duke topped Boston College, Dartmouth and UConn on Friday before traveling to Harvard on Saturday to defeat the Crimson and the Texas A&M men's side.
Read some of Colella's thoughts on the weekend below:
On the weekend in Boston...
"We had some travel delays and got up there fairly late Thursday night, but they adapted. Friday night I think they swam a little bit tight. But honestly, I think Friday night's racing just enhanced their performances on Saturday. We knew that we had an opportunity to do some big things and came away from a weekend with a lot of great performances. More than anything it's got everybody really excited for the invite in a couple of weeks."
On the student-athletes' progression so far this season...
"We've just continued to build and get better every meet. We have spent the fall really laying down a great base for the second half of the season so to come away from the meet last Saturday with those kind of performances again, I think that it helps them to appreciate all the hard work and that it's paying off."
On Duke's strength of schedule in the fall...
"This only helps them to build their confidence that they can compete at the highest level. It helps them to feel really good about the goals that we set at the beginning of the year being achievable. I think it's got them again really excited for the invite in two weeks when we will swim four very highly ranked teams and you know and then look into the second half of the season and be in a position where we can hopefully do some real damage at ACCs and NCAAs."
