DURHAM, N.C. – Following another impressive season, head coach
Chris Pollard and the Duke baseball program are excited to now welcome the 2020 recruiting class. Highly touted infielder
Jordan Walker headlines the talented group set to arrive in Durham next fall.
"We are thrilled to welcome Jordan Walker to Duke," said Pollard. "He is a special player, but he's also a really special person. From a skillset standpoint, he brings a unique combination of size, speed and power along with elite defensive ability. He's one of the best high school defenders that I have ever scouted and the best high school third baseman that I have ever scouted. Additionally, he has really elite bat-to-barrel skills and he's has plus arm strength, which is evident by the fact that he's a really accomplished two-way player. We certainly welcome that complete skillet to our program next year."
An accomplished player and letterwinner at Decatur High School, Walker comes to Durham from Stone Mountain, Ga. Walker enjoyed an impressive junior campaign at the plate, batting .519 with 17 home runs, 60 RBI, 43 runs scored and 24 stolen bases on his way to being named 2019 Region 6AAAAA Offensive Player of the Year. Walker was also tabbed to the 6AAAAA First Team and DeKalb County First Team while being named the DeKalb County Offensive Player of the Year.
Walker has participated in a variety of major events, including the 2019 Perfect Game All-American Classic, which was held at Petco Park—home of the San Diego Padres—in August 2019. Earlier this summer, he was selected to compete in the Major League Baseball High School All-Star Game, while also taking part in the All-Star home run derby with six other participants.
"He's played on the biggest stages that high school baseball has to offer in the most elite events," Pollard added. "That experience of playing against the very best competition in the country at his age level will really help prepare him to step in and compete at a high level right away at the college level."
Walker is regarded as the nation's top prospect by Perfect Game USA, and an All-American by the publication. The 6-5 infielder competed with Team Elite 2020, which is based out of Winder, Ga.
"Additionally away from the field, he's just a terrific person," Pollard quoted. "I'm really just impressed by his humility. He's really accomplished academically. He brings a very complete skillset to Duke as a student-athlete, and we're excited for him to get on campus next June."
Walker is part of Duke's 12-member 2020 recruiting class. GoDuke.com is set to release details on all 12 of the newest Blue Devils in the coming weeks.
