DURHAM, N.C.—The eighth-ranked Duke field hockey team opens NCAA postseason action Friday afternoon against Big Ten Champion and sixth-ranked Iowa in Chapel Hill. First hit is set for 2:30 p.m., at Karen Shelton Stadium.
The Blue Devils are making their 18th appearance in the NCAA Tournament and are playing Iowa for the first time in the postseason. The game will be streamed live on YouTube.Â
Gameday Details
- The Blue Devils and Hawkeyes square off at 2:30 p.m., at Karen Shelton Stadium. Parking for fans will be at Rams Head Parking Deck across from the stadium.
- Tickets are $5 for adults and 3$ for students (7-college) and senior citizens.
- The winner of the game advances to the quarterfinals to take on either North Carolina or Stanford, Nov. 17 at 1 p.m.

Scouting The Hawkeyes
- Iowa is riding a five-game win streak, dating back to Oct. 20 when it lost to Louisville 3-2. The Hawkeyes are 16-4 overall and won the Big Ten Tournament title with a 1-0 victory over Penn State in the championship game.
- Led by Maddy Murphy's 36 points from 12 goals and 12 assists, Iowa features the nation's seventh-ranked scoring offense at 3.05 goals per game. The Hawkeyes have seven players with double-digit points and three with over 20 on the year. Katie Birch and Lokke Stribos both have 24 points apiece. Iowa averages 15.8 shots per game and 5.15 penalty corners per outing.
- Leslie Speight has started 18 games this season and is the anchor to the defense. She sports a 1.03 goals against average and a .705 save percentage and has two solo shutouts. Iowa has four shutouts as a team and holds its opponents to only 6.4 shots per game and 3.05 penalty corners.

- The Blue Devils outshot Virginia 20-4, but couldn't find the back of the cage in a tough 2-1 setback to No. 4 Virginia in the opening round of the ACC Championship. Duke had a season-high 12 penalty corners and held the Cavaliers to only four shots.
- Duke has played a daunting schedule week in and week out in 2019. Friday's game against No. 7 Iowa will be the 17th top-25 game of the Blue Devils' season. Against ranked opponents Duke owns a 53-29 record since 2015, is 9-7 this season and is 1-1 at neutral sites in 2019.
- After starting the year with a nearly three goals per game scoring average, Duke has struggled offensively of late, averaging 1.5 goals per game, including being shut out twice, in the past eight outings. In the first 12 games of the year, the Blue Devils were scoring 2.83 goals per game.
- Under the direction of head coach Pam Bustin, Duke is 79-57 when facing ranked teams and 10-7 in NCAA Tournament play since Duke's first appearance with Bustin in 2011.

- The Blue Devils have registered eight shutouts on the season, matching last year's total. The last time a Duke defense recorded nine shutouts was in 1991, and the all-time record for shutouts in a single season is 11, set back in 1982.
