Why did you choose Duke?
Olivia Carner: Duke presents the perfect combination of academics, athletics and team culture. From the beginning of my college search, I knew that if I was given an opportunity to become part of the Duke family, there would be no looking back. As soon as I stepped on campus, it felt like home.
What is your favorite lacrosse memory?
OC: Winning the NYS championship with my Northport varsity team as a senior. It was the last time we would ever play together and I will remember that weekend for the rest of my life.
When did you start playing lacrosse?
OC: I started playing lacrosse in third grade and at the beginning I was using a boy's stick. Halfway into the season, my PAL coach finally told me! I am so grateful to my PAL coaches, particularly Terri and Paul Craco, for instilling in me a love of the game from a young age.
What are your goals for your collegiate career?
OC: To be the best teammate I can be and meaningfully contribute on the field to the team's success. Outside of lacrosse, I want to become involved in the Duke community and immerse myself in all that Duke has to offer academically.
Who has had the greatest impact on your life?
OC: My parents. They have loved and supported me every step of the way and I am incredibly grateful to them.
To be a part of the Duke women's lacrosse program is … truly a dream come true. My goal since eighth grade was to become a part of this team and I feel incredibly fortunate that it all worked out.
