DURHAM, N.C. – Duke swimming and diving head coach
Dan Colella discussed his thoughts on his team's performance in the meet against Georgia on Saturday.
Although Duke fell to the SEC powerhouse, the Blue Devils made it a competitive showing in a nearly full Taishoff Aquatics Pavilion. The women's meet came down to the last event but fell, 160-140, while the men came up short, 170-130.
Read some of Colella's comments from his interview below:
On Saturday's meet against Georgia...
"I'm really excited with the way they perform this weekend. The challenge in front of us was to swim a team like Georgia, a team that is currently ranked much higher than us and has a tremendous tradition of excellence. What I was really excited about was the fact that we raced them incredibly hard all day long from start to finish."
On freshmen continuing to make an impact...
"I'm really proud of our freshmen who I think started out against FSU with some great competition and events and it just continued."
On Georgia's Program...
"The more we race programs like Georgia will just make us better. We have tremendous respect for what Jack Bauerle and his group does there.
On how this meet will help his team in the future...
"These meets make us that much better for the coming meets, particularly at the end of the season at the ACC and NCAA Championships. These are the kind of individuals we're going to face when we get to the NCAA Championships. The fact that we came away with a lot of wins, we even had some upsets in there, will always be exciting."
On the energy leading up to the meet...
"I thought the energy all week was really great. That's important – it just gets them that much more excited about the meets that are coming up here in the next couple of weeks."
