TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The ninth-ranked Duke women's soccer team suffered a 1-0 loss to fifth-ranked Florida State (14-4, 8-2 ACC) on the road at Seminole Soccer Complex Thursday evening. With the loss, the Blue Devils fall to 8-2-7 on the season and 3-1-6 in ACC play, while the result ends Duke's 14-game unbeaten streak.
One goal proved to be the difference in the tightly played contest between the two top 10 foes. After a scoreless 78 minutes of play, the Seminoles broke the tie at the 78:36 mark with the lone goal of the contest, which decided the game.
The two teams entered the halftime break scoreless after a close first half of action. Florida State held the advantage in shots, 5-2, while neither team attempted a first-half corner kick.
Duke's best chance of the first half came on an attempt from freshman
Emmy Duerr in the 37
th minute. The Blue Devil freshman received a lead pass from senior
Ella Stevens before breaking away for a one-on-one attempt with the FSU goalkeeper. Duerr worked the right side of the final third before firing off a shot that ricocheted the keeper's hands, keeping the game scoreless.
Florida State broke the scoreless tie with a goal in the 79

The Blue Devils created several chances across the second half, but were unable to break into the scoring column.
The Seminoles closed out the contest with a 15-3 advantage in shots, while also holding the advantage in corner kicks 3-1—all coming in the second half. Heinsohn provided a valiant effort for the Blue Devils, finishing with six saves on the evening.
Duke now shifts its focus to the ACC Tournament, as the team has earned the sixth seed. The Blue Devils will travel to third-seeded Virginia for the quarterfinal matchup on Sunday, Nov. 3. The match is scheduled for a 5 p.m. kickoff, with action airing live on ACC Network.
