 Breaking Down the Blue Devils
Duke hits the road for the final time of the regular season Friday for a matchup at Pittsburgh. The Blue Devils are 6-6-2 overall and coming off of a tough 1-0 loss to High Point Tuesday. Duke currently sits in fourth in the Coastal Division with seven points and tied for seventh overall in the ACC.
Senior Daniele Proch is the headliner on offense with 10 goals and 23 points overall. He is three shy of his total of 26 points last season after 14 games. Classmate Brandon Williamson has a goal and three assists overall, while Max Moser is the top assist provider with four. Overall, 10 different Duke players have scored a goal this season.
Defensively, Duke started the season with shutouts in three of the first four games before allowing 13 goals in the next five outings. Aedan Stanley and Matthias Frick returned to center back roles in the middle of the year to help solidify the backline. In goal, Will Pulisic has an ACC-best 54 saves, five shutouts and a 1.25 goals against average.
 ACC Standings
With the ACC Championship approaching teams, are looking even closer at the standings. Duke is currently fourth in the Coastal Division behind Virginia, UNC and Pitt. A win by the Blue Devils coupled with a North Carolina loss to Louisville Friday will put Duke into at least a tie for second-place in the Coastal Division. A victory over the Panthers can launch Duke into a tie for fifth place overall and possibly a tie for fourth with one game remaining.
The 2019 ACC Championship gets underway Nov. 5-6 with the four first-round games. The division winners are the No. 1 and 2 seeds, while the remaining 10 teams get ranked according to overall ACC finish. The division winners and then seeds three and four get a bye to the quarterfinals Nov. 10. The title game is Nov. 17 in Cary, N.C. on ESPNU.
 Series History
Duke and Pittsburgh meet for the ninth time overall and for the eighth time as ACC foes. The Blue Devils are 6-0-2 all-time against the Panthers and 5-0-2 since 2013. The most recent game was a 0-0 draw in the 2018 ACC Tournament, which Duke eventually won 4-3 on penalty kicks.
The Blue Devils are undefeated against the Panthers at Ambrose Urbanic Field in Pittsburgh and have outscored them 6-0 in the three games.
 Last Time We Met
Will Pulisic stopped two penalty kicks and converted his own with ease to lead the eighth-ranked Blue Devils to the ACC Championship semifinals with a 4-3 shootout victory over Pittsburgh in the ACC quarterfinals in 2018.
The game ended in a scoreless draw after 110 minutes, during which Pittsburgh hit the crossbar three times and Duke nearly scored in the final seconds of both regulation and the second overtime.
 About Pittsburgh
Pittsburgh heads into Friday night's crucial ACC matchup after a thrilling 2-0 victory over unbeaten and then-No. 1 Virginia. The Panthers are 7-5-2 overall and 3-2-1 in the ACC. Pitt is 5-2-1 at home this season has won three of its past four overall, with the loss coming on the road at Penn State.Â
The Panthers are averaging 2.00 goals per game with the combination of Edward Kizza and Veljko Petkovic leading the offense with 20 and 15 points, respectively. Valentin Noel and Sito Sena both have three goals and nine points apiece.
Defensively, Pittsburgh shut out Virginia last Friday, but are allowing just over a goal per game. Three different goalkeepers have started at least three games this season with Arie Ammann owning nine starts, a 1.17 goals against average and a .738 save percentage.
 On the Road
Duke heads to PIttsburgh for its final ACC road trip. The Blue Devils beat North Carolina, but lost to Clemson and Notre Dame.
The Blue Devils went 2-2 in ACC regular season road games in 2018, and in a testament to the difficulty of the league, have never won more than three ACC road games since 2008.
Overall on the road, Duke is 29-41-9 under head coach John Kerr and 10-16-3 in non-conference road games.
