DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke volleyball team (8-13, 1-7 ACC) will return to Cameron Indoor Stadium this week for a pair of ACC matches.
The Blue Devils will look to bounce back from their conference slump and will take on Wake Forest (11-8, 1-7 ACC) Wednesday, Oct. 23 for a 7 p.m., contest on ACC Network before welcoming Virginia Tech (8-13, 1-7 ACC) Friday evening at 6:30 p.m., on ACCNX.
Duke fell to both its opponents on the road over the weekend in Clemson 3-2 (15-25, 27-25, 25-23, 30-32, 4-15) and Georgia Tech 3-0 (18-25, 15-25, 13-25).
In the five-set battle against Clemson, sophomore
Ade Owokoniran paced the Blue Devils with 24 kills and just six errors to hit .360 percent and added two digs and four blocks. The 24 kills mark the third 20+ kill performance for the sophomore. Rookie
Gracie Johnson added 14 kills while setter
Sarah Nelson dished 35 assists. Libero
Mackenzie Cole registered her first 20+ dig performance this season with 22.
Wake Forest has lost five matches in a row and most recently fell to Georgia Tech (3-0) and Clemson (3-0).
The Demon Deacons are led by Peyton Suess with 216 kills and a 3.38 kill/set average and Caitlyn Della who is hitting .391 for the season with 157 kills and is currently fourth in the conference. Setter Madeline Holt has 563 assists to her name as Wake Forest is hitting .231 percent this season.
Entering the weekend, Virginia Tech is 8-13 overall and 1-7 in conference play. Last time out, the Hokies defeated No. 23 Louisville, 3-1, but fell to Notre Dame, 3-1.
Offensively, Marisa Cerchio leads the team with 225 kills (2.78 kills/set) and is hitting .231 percent, while four other Hokies have 100+ kills this season: Cera Powell (197), Tessa Wyner (140), Kaity Smith (125) and Anabel Zier (120).
