ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Senior attackman Justin Guterding scored three times to become the NCAA's all-time leader in goals as fourth-seeded Duke posted a 14-9 victory over fifth-seeded Johns Hopkins in the weekend's fourth national quarterfinal contest as 13,047 spectators looked on Sunday afternoon at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, Md.

The Blue Devils (15-3) advance to Memorial Day Weekend for the 11th time in school history – and ninth in 12 seasons under head coach John Danowski – and will meet top-seeded Maryland in the national semifinals on Saturday at 2:30 p.m., at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Mass. Second-seeded Albany faces third-seeded Yale at 12 noon in the other semifinal matchup with the championship tilt set for Monday afternoon.

Guterding enjoyed a record-breaking day against the Blue Jays as his third tally of the game pushed his career total to 207, eclipsing the previous NCAA record of 206 set by former Duke standout Zack Greer. In addition, the goal marked Guterding's 104th point of 2018 to set the Duke single-season scoring record, bettering Jordan Wolf's 103-point campaign in 2014. The Garden City, N.Y., native now has 61 goals and 43 assists this season and, for his career, 207 goals and 135 assists in 73 games.

Duke jumped out to a 4-1 lead after one period of play thanks to a pair of goals from Joey Manown. Johns Hopkins (12-5) pulled within 5-3 midway through the second quarter, but Brian Smyth and Reilly Walsh provided tallies down the stretch to send the teams into intermission with the Blue Devils ahead, 7-3.

In the third quarter, the Blue Jays again pulled within two goals at 7-5 when Cole Williams scored with 1:55 on the clock. Duke responded, however, as Guterding tallied an unassisted goal with 16 seconds left and then fed Brad Smith for a goal as time expired in the period, pushing the advantage back to four.

The Blue Jays regained momentum in the final quarter and scored three consecutive goals to make the score 9-8 with 7:11 remaining when Kyle Marr notched his 40th goal of the season. Duke then turned to rookie Nakeie Montgomery, who on back-to-back possessions dodged and scored from the left wing to provide the Blue Devils with an 11-8 lead at the 5:25 mark. On the ensuing faceoff following Montgomery's second tally, Greg Pelton scooped up the ground ball and rifled home his first goal of the year for a four-marker lead.

Marr would score once more before Guterding and Joe Robertson both found the back of the net in the final two minutes to account for the final margin.

Manown, Montgomery and Robertson finished the day with two goals apiece to join Guterding with multiple tallies. In the Duke net, Danny Fowler was credited with 11 saves as Duke improved to 11-0 this season when holding its opponent to fewer than 10 goals. Smyth was terrific at the faceoff X, winning 18-of-25 draws and picking up nine ground balls.

For Johns Hopkins, Marr and Williams paced the offense with two goals each while Shack Stanwick handed out two assists. Goalkeeper Brock Turnbaugh made nine saves.
