DURHAM, N.C -- Duke men's golf senior Alex Smalley and junior Chandler Eaton are two of 20 players nationally that have been named to the Fall Watch List for the Fred Haskins Award Presented by Stifel.
The award is given annually to the best college golfer, as voted by players, coaches and media. The Blue Devils join Oklahoma State, USC, SMU and Georgia Tech as the only teams with multiple players on the Watch List.
Smalley and Eaton are Duke's two leading golfers through the season's first three events and each have an individual win to their credit. The ninth-ranked Blue Devils have won consecutive team events, and have defeated all but one team on their 2018-19 slate. Smalley is averaging a team-best 68.89, which includes the 61 he fired in the first round at the Louisville Cardinal Challenge on his way to a victory.
Eaton, who's scoring average of 69.11 is the team's second-best mark, is coming off a victory over a stacked field at the Nike Golf Collegiate Invitational. Smallley is currently ranked No. 14 in the Golfweek rankings with Eaton ranked No. 17.
Haskins Award winners over the years include such notables as Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and Luke Donald. Oregon's Norman Xiong won last year's award.
Duke ranked No. 2 in Golfweek's team ratings, and No. 9 in the latest Coaches Poll, returns to action Oct. 19-21 at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate Championship.\
