DURHAM, N.C. – Part of the Duke football experience is that it is meant to be a 40-year experience and not just a four-year commitment, where lessons learned and networking relationships carry over throughout life.
This summer, redshirt senior cornerback Bryon Fields Jr. and redshirt junior wide receiver Chris Taylor got to experience some of the best of this full-scale Duke football support as the pair interned at Alden Global Capital, a privately owned hedge fund sponsor, in New York City for three weeks as part of The Heath Freeman Duke Football Internship Program.
David Cutcliffe's Duke Football TV Show sat down with the pair to discuss their internship experience and what they learned from the weeks in New York City.
The internship program was created by former Duke kicker Heath Freeman, who felt the need to reconnect with Blue Devil football, but by doing more than simply donating money. He knew he could do more, and put himself to work to find a solution. The end product was his internship program. Freeman, president of Alden Global Capital, had two main goals: To have the student-athletes meet and build relationships with five alumni in the three-week period and to learn about five businesses in different industries.
Duke kicks off against N.C. Central on Saturday at 6 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on ACC Network Extra. Season tickets are available online at www.GoDuke.com/FootballTix or by calling the Duke Athletic Ticket Office at 919-681-2583.
