INDIANAPOLIS – Rising Blue Devil sophomore Alyssa Marsh raced to a fourth-place finish in the 50-meter butterfly Wednesday at the 2017 Phillips 66 National Championships.
Marsh began her banner day at the IU Natatorium by notching a personal-best time of 26.69 in the event preliminaries, qualifying her for the championship final in seventh overall. Wednesday evening's session saw Marsh go even faster, as she touched the wall at 26.46 for fourth in the country.
Also competing in the 50 butterfly was rising sophomore Kylie Jordan, who came in under her entry time as well at 27.30. That mark tied Jordan for 21st in preliminaries.
Wednesday morning's action also featured rising juniors Maddie Hess (2:18.11) and Max St. George (2:07.42) in the 200 backstroke and incoming freshman Adam Zimmer (2:23.11) in the 200 breaststroke.
Rising sophomore Roger Kriegl kicked off events in Indianapolis Tuesday, earning a top-40 finish in the 1500 freestyle preliminaries at 16:05.01.
Marsh and Jordan will be back in the water Thursday morning for the 100 butterfly preliminaries, while Zimmer will compete in the 50 breaststroke and Hess and St. George in the 50 backstroke. Preliminary heats begin at 9 a.m. and finals at 6 p.m. on Universal HD and on the NBC Sports app. Live results will be available here throughout the meet.
