LEXINGTON, Ky. – Select Blue Devils competed in the first day of the NCAA East Preliminary Round in Lexington, Ky., and was highlighted by senior Christine Streisel, junior Madison Heath and freshmen Katelyn Gochenour and Laura Marty qualifying for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in June.
Heath tied for second place overall today during the women's pole vault competition with a clearance of 13-9.25 (4.20), while Marty vaulted 13-5.25 (4.10) to finish tied for 11th.
This will be Heath's third trip to Eugene, Ore., and Marty's first time punching her ticket to compete on the national stage.
Also competing in field events for Duke was Gochenour and Streisel in women's javelin. Gochenour and Streisel both secured trips to nationals with marks of 167-10 (51.16) and 159-10 (48.72), respectively, by finishing fifth and ninth.
On the track, senior Madeline Kopp posted a qualifying time in the first round of the 800m. Kopp clocked in at 2:06.58 to finish fourth overall and will compete tomorrow evening in the quarterfinal.
Rookie Chesney Ward competed alongside Heath and Marty today in women's pole vault and posted a personal-best clearance of 13-5.25 (4.10) to round out her solid freshman campaign.
The Blue Devils will be back in action tomorrow for day two of the NCAA East Preliminary Round beginning at 2 p.m. with field events and 4:30 p.m. with running events. The SECN+/ESPN3 broadcast will begin at 5:30 p.m.
