DURHAM, N.C. - As part of the ACC's Sportsmanship Week, Duke Athletics has partnered with the non-profit Compassion It to help promote togetherness and understanding.
Compassion It's mission is to inspire compassionate actions and attitudes. The organization envisions a day when compassion is practiced by every person, for every person, every day.
As part of the initiative, all Blue Devil teams have received Compassion It bracelets through Duke's SAAC representatives. Earlier this week, Chalena Scholl and Kaitlyn McCarthy of the women's tennis team paired with North Carolina women's tennis players Rachael James-Baker and Jessie Aney to visit Glenwood Elementery School to speak with fourth graders about compassion and sportsmanship. Each student-athlete shared stories of when she was compassionate or compassion was shown to her.
Duke teams have shared their thoughts on compassion with short videos that can be seen on Duke's Student-Athlete Development's Twitter feed, @DukeSADev.
