DURHAM, N.C. – Head coach Megan Cooke Carcagno and the Duke rowing program are excited to announce the signing of Sofia Creskoff to a National Letter of Intent. Creskoff is a senior at The Howard Gardner School in Alexandria, Va.
Creskoff has been a member of the Resilient Rowing Club from 2015-17 under the direction of coaches Paul Allbright and Brian Tassi. While with Resilient, Creskoff helped the club to a fourth place finish in the Women's Youth 2x at the USRowing Youth National Championships during her junior year. She also competed with the 8+ at the Head of the Charles as a junior and senior. As a senior, the Youth 8+ finished in 16th place.
Already this school year, her Resilient club won the Occoquan Chase in the Junior Women's 8+, claimed third place in the Mixed 8+ at the Head of the Hooch and took fifth place in the Women's Youth 2- at the Head of the Hooch.
"We are excited to welcome Sofia to the Blue Devil family," assistant coach and recruiting coordinator Chase Graham said. "She has had great success in both big and small boats throughout her high school career. Alongside her boat moving talent, we look forward to having her contagious work ethic in our locker room. Our goal is to attract student-athletes who want to get better every day. Sofia demonstrates that as she remains in pursuit to be selected to represent Team USA at the Junior World Championships this summer."
The Howard Gardner School does not have a rowing team, but Creskoff represented in school in the U19 1x event at the Virginia Scholastic Championships as a junior and took third place. She also advanced to the Scholastic Rowing Association of America National Championships in the Women's Varsity 1x and finished sixth.
Creskoff has increased her skill set by participating in the USRowing High Performance camp.
"There are a lot of things that made Duke stand out to me," Creskoff said. "First, it offers top-notch academics and plenty of small, hands-on classes. Second, the university attracts lots of interesting and hardworking people. I also chose Duke for the rowing team - it has ambition and great coaches."
Away from rowing, Creskoff was a two-year South County Middle School Science Olympiad coach, a volunteer at the Lorton Community Action Center and a USRowing Scholastic Honor Roll selection.
