WILMINGTON, N.C. – The fourth-ranked Duke women's golf team continued its stellar play Friday in the opening round of The Landfall Tradition as the Blue Devils carded a Friday record, 11-under-par, 277, to lead by one stroke at the 6,166-yard, par 72 Country Club of Landfall in Wilmington, N.C.
The Blue Devils were paced by sophomore Ana Belac, who fired a career-best and tournament record, 6-under-par, 66, in the first round to hold the individual lead by one stroke. She moved her score to eight-under-par with birdies on No. 10, No. 11, No. 12 and No. 15, before closing the day with bogeys on No. 17 and No. 18. Belac was hitting her approach shots close all day as he drained six foot putts or less on five different holes for birdie. She hit 14 greens, 13 fairways and had a season-best 25 putts.

Boonchant carded eight straight pars, before notching her first birdie of the day on the 392-yard, par four ninth. She added three consecutive birdies over holes 12-14 to move to four-under-par. Boonchant, who is from Bangkok, Thailand, suffered her lone bogey of the day on No. 16 and finished with a 69. She hit 10 greens, 11 fairways and rolled a career-best 24 putts.

A native of Beijing, China, Wang notched two birdies on the front and back and was four-of-five on up-and-downs on the day. She hit 10 fairways, 13 greens and had 28 putts in the first round.
After suffering only her second double-bogey of the season on the second hole, senior Leona Maguire went on to play the final 16 holes at two-under-par with birdies on No. 3, No. 7 and No. 9. A product of Cavan, Ireland, Maguire played the final nine holes at even par with nine pars. She finished the day with an even-par, 72, to rank tied for 20th.
Junior Virginia Elena Carta played her final 14 holes at even par on her way to shooting a one-over, 73. Carta, who hails from Udine, Italy, had opened her day with a birdie on No. 2 and a double-bogey on No. 4. She enters Saturday tied 27th overall.
