DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke men's and women's swimming and diving squads have been named College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-America Teams for the 2016 fall semester, as announced by the organization Wednesday.
The awards are in recognition of teams that achieved a grade point average of 3.0 or higher during the 2016 fall semester.
The Blue Devil men recorded a collective grade point average of 3.23 to lead the seven ACC squads that received Scholar All-America recognition. The women ranked fourth among the 12 ACC teams to earn the accolade with a combined grade point average of 3.33 for the fall.
In addition, Duke was one of seven ACC institutions to have both the women's and men's teams net the academic honor.
Overall, a record 638 swimming and diving teams representing 394 institutions across the divisions were named Scholar All-America teams. In total 73 percent of all CSCAA member programs posted GPA's above 3.00 with 91 percent of Division I women's teams meeting the mark. Women's teams averaged a 3.336 GPA with men slightly behind at 3.22.
