DURHAM, N.C. – Former Duke University National Player of the Year Lindsey Harding will make her Olympic debut Saturday, Aug. 6 with Belarus as the squad competes in Group A during preliminary round action in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Harding, a product of Houston, Texas, qualified for the Olympics with Belarus and is the first Duke women's basketball alumna to compete in the Olympics. Belarus will face Japan, France, Brazil, Turkey and Australia in group play from Aug. 6-13.
The contest against Japan Aug. 6 will take place at 6:45 p.m., in Rio de Janeiro in the Youth Arena. Other set games for Belarus are Aug. 7 vs. France at 6:45 p.m., Aug. 9 vs. Brazil at 2:30 p.m., Aug. 11 vs. Turkey at 11:15 a.m. and Aug. 13 vs. Australia at 11:15 a.m.
If Harding and the Belarus advance out of group play, the quarterfinals will be held starting Tuesday, Aug. 16.
Belarus is returning to the Olympics for the first time in eight years. The United States is the reigning Olympic champions, after defeating France in the gold medal contest in London in 2012.
