DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke men's tennis team and head coach
Ramsey Smith announced the squad's 2016-17 schedule on Wednesday. The spring slate is highlighted by 13 home opponents, the Hills Family Hawai'i Trip in January and the ACC Tournament in Cary, N.C., during late April while fall competition begins September 16-18 with the Duke James Bonk Invite.
The fall slate opens in mid-September with the Duke James Bonk Invite in Cary, N.C. The Blue Devils have two weeks off before ITA All-American action begins in Tulsa, Okla., with the prequalifying and qualifying rounds from October 1-4. The ITA All-American main draw runs from October 6-9.
The squad then returns home for the ITA Carolina Regional Championships in Cary, N.C., from October 14-18. The Blue Devils remain in North Carolina for the Wolfpack Invite in Raleigh from October 21-23. The team rounds out the fall campaign with the Dick Vitale Clay Court Classic in Bradenton, Fla., from November 4-6. Should a Blue Devil advance to the USTA/ITA National Indoor Championships, he would be in Flushing, N.Y., from November 3-6 for the event.
The Hills Hawai'i trip kicks off the spring slate with the week excursion running from January 7-13. Duke returns home to host Elon on January 16 before traveling to Kentucky on January 20. The Blue Devils end the month with home contests versus Michigan State on January 27 and VCU on January 28.
February begins with trips to Illinois (February 3) and Northwestern (February 5). Duke then hosts four teams on two days, holding doubleheaders against Tennessee and N.C. Central on February 12 and Coastal Carolina and Charlotte on February 25.
ACC play kicks off with a March 4 trip to Virginia Tech and a drive to Chapel Hill on March 7. The Blue Devils return home March 12 to face Wake Forest before heading to UCLA for the last regular season nonconference match of the year on March 16.
Duke completes the month of March with three home matches and one road contest. The program hosts N.C. State on March 22, Boston College on March 24 and Florida State on March 31 with a trip to Charlottesville, Va., to face Virginia on March 26.
Continuing ACC play, the Blue Devils travel to Georgia Tech on April 7 and Clemson on April 9. Duke returns to Durham for its final two home contests, April 14 versus Notre Dame and April 15 against Miami.
The team's final match of the regular season will be April 21 at Louisville.
The ACC Championship will take place at the Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C., from April 26-30.
The 2017 NCAA Championships will begin with regional action May 12-13. The University of Georgia will serve as the host site for the Round of 16 through the championship, which is scheduled for May 23. Athens, Ga., is also the site for the NCAA Individual Championships, which run from May 24-29.
