OMAHA, Neb. – Rising senior Michael Miller turned in two more top 25 finishes as Blue Devil swimmers continued action at the 2016 U.S. Olympic Team Trials this week at the CenturyLink Center.
Miller, who was 25th Sunday in the 400-meter individual medley preliminaries, also shined in the 200 butterfly and 200 IM. He took 24th in the field in the 200 butterfly, posting a best time of 2:00.26 in Tuesday morning's session. That performance marked a 60-spot improvement from his pre-meet ranking of 84th. The Houston, Texas native added a best time Thursday in the 200 IM, tapping the wall at 2:03.08 to drop over a second and a half off his entry time of 2:04.67. The speedy showing earned Miller a 25th-place finish in the country.
Joining Miller in Thursday's 200 IM preliminaries was Bradley Cline, who went 2:04.87 for 46th place, a 22-spot improvement from his pre-meet ranking.
Wednesday's events saw rising sophomore Judd Howard earn his second top-50 finish of the meet. After taking 47th in Sunday's 100 breaststroke preliminaries, Howard was 34th in the 200 breaststroke with a best time of 2:17.31. The Irvine, Calif., native was ranked 99th at the 200-meter distance entering trials.
Representing the Duke women this week were Leah Goldman, who took 35th in the 200 IM (2:19.77) and Anna Quinn, who placed 87th in the 200 butterfly (2:18.92).
Friday will be a busy day of competition for the Blue Devils in Omaha, with seven swimmers slated to hit the water. Rising senior Michael Seaberg and incoming freshman Roger Kriegl will start off the 11 a.m. ET preliminary session in the 50 freestyle, followed by rising junior Verity Abel and Duke alumna Ashley Twichell in the 800 freestyle. Miller returns to the pool in the 100 butterfly, while rising sophomore Maddie Hess and rising junior Maria Sheridan take the blocks in the 200 backstroke.
