DURHAM, N.C.—Duke men's lacrosse head coach John Danowski has announced the U.S. men's national team roster for the team's exhibition against Notre Dame at the annual Team USA Spring Premiere in Bradenton, Fla. The game is set for 1 p.m., Jan. 15 at IMG Academy.
Named the head coach of the U.S. men's senior team in November of 2015, Danowski will lead Team USA in its pursuit for a record 10th gold medal at the 2018 FIL World Championship in Manchester, England.
Included on the 30-player roster is a trio of former Blue Devils in Ned Crotty, Matt Danowski and Brendan Fowler. Crotty was a member of the 2010 and 2014 U.S. men's national team. Six former Blue Devils suited up for Team USA in the U.S. intrasquad scrimmage in September.
“This is our third event [since the coaching staff has been named],” said Danowski. “The first two events have far exceeded the coaching staff's expectations in terms of individual focus and the creation of team culture. With that being said, we will continue to look at additional players to assess their fit. We are not necessarily looking for the most skilled players because they are all skilled, but the right players to create the best team possible at this time.”
In September, Danowski led all players with eight points overall, while Crotty had an assist and a ground ball. Myles Jones had a goal and two assists and Fowler won half of his faceoffs. Michael Manley, who is suiting up for the Rochester Knighthawks of the National Lacrosse League this winter, picked up two ground balls. Will Haus added a goal and three ground balls.
Danowski, a 2008 Duke graduate, is joined by Kyle Harrison, Paul Rabil, Matt Bocklet, Kevin Unterstein and Kyle Hartzell as the elder statesmen of the group.
