DURHAM, N.C. - As Duke Athletics nears the conclusion of 2016, we wanted to look back at some of the top moments that made it so extraordinary.
In this countdown titled, “Top 16 of 2016,” we have chosen 16 noteworthy events from the calendar year that encapsulated the spirit and success of Duke while also illuminating the growth and achievements that our athletic programs continue to attain.
The series, starting Friday, December 16, will continue daily until its conclusion on December 31.
No. 14: Men's Lacrosse Comeback OT Win Over Syracuse
Senior midfielder Chad Cohan scored 53 seconds into the first overtime session to give No. 9 Duke a 16-15 victory over No. 5 Syracuse on Saturday afternoon in front of 3,571 fans at Koskinen Stadium. Duke's effort was highlighted by a seven-goal, two-assist performance from Deemer Class as the Blue Devils rallied from as many as five goals down to register the win. Syracuse led nearly all of regulation, holding advantages of 4-1 at the end of the first period and 11-6 at intermission. The Blue Devils entered the final quarter trailing, 14-10, but used a 5-0 spurt to claim a 15-14 lead on a goal by Class with 6:28 left to play. Duke's draw man Kyle Rowe was outstanding at the faceoff X, winning 18-of-32 restarts , including 5-of-7 in the fourth quarter.
