Duke Set to Open NCAA Tournament Saturday Against Charlotte...
After receiving a No. 3 overall seed in the 2016 NCAA Tournament, the 14th-ranked Duke women's soccer team (12-4-3) will open postseason action Saturday, Nov. 12 at 1 p.m., against Charlotte (11-8-2). The match will be played at Koskinen Stadium in Durham, N.C. It will be aired live on the ACC Network Extra.
The winner of the Duke/Charlotte match will advance to the NCAA Tournament second round to face the winner of the Michigan/Illinois State contest on Nov. 18.
Duke is riding a 12-match undefeated streak in NCAA Tournament matches played in Durham, N.C. The Blue Devils are making their 22nd NCAA Tournament appearance.

Duke is listed No. 14 in the Soccer America and NSCAA top 25 rankings, while being No. 15 in the TopDrawerSoccer.com listing.
In the latest NCAA RPI, Duke is listed No. 15 and the Blue Devils' four losses have come to No. 2 (West Virginia), No. 14 Clemson, No. 17 (FSU) and No. 18 (Arkansas). Charlotte is listed No. 85.
A Look at Charlotte...
Charlotte enters the NCAA Tournament with an 11-8-2 overall record under head coach John Cullen. The 49ers have been led by Martha Thomas and Megan Greene with 10 goals each. Thomas has also collected 10 assists for a team-best 30 points on the year. Riley Orr leads Charlotte with 11 assists. The 49ers knocked off Western Kentucky, UTEP and Florida Atlanta over the weekend to claim the Conference USA Championship and the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
The Series with Charlotte...
Duke and Charlotte will meet for the seventh time in school history with the Blue Devils leading the series, 5-1. The 49ers downed Duke, 2-1, in the last meeting Oct. 20, 2002. Blue Devil head coach Robbie Church started the Charlotte women's soccer program in 1995 and totaled a 66-30-10 record with the 49ers.
Head coach Robbie Church owns a 1-1 record against the 49ers as a women's head coach. The two meetings came in 2002 (L, 1-2 in Charlotte) and in 2001 (W, 1-0, in neutral site game).

Blue Devil head coach Robbie Church has a connection with Charlotte in a big way. Church started the women's soccer program at Charlotte and spent five seasons with the 49ers. He collected a 66-30-10 overall record and advanced to the NCAA Tournament second round in 1998, after winning the Conference USA Championship.
Church's son, Kyle Church, was a walk on for the Charlotte men's basketball team from 2006-10 and is now the Director of Basketball Operations at Florida.

Gibbons is the only player in Duke history to play in 80 or more matches and average 90+ minutes a game. She is currently averaging 90.05 minutes a match.
