TULSA, Okla. – Duke got off to a strong start at the Saint Francis Health System ITA Men's All-American Championships with a 4-0 record during the prequalifying rounds. Senior TJ Pura and freshman Nick Stachowiak both advanced to the Round of 64 with two wins each Saturday.
Pura started his last trip to the All-American Championships with a 6-4, 6-4 victory against Daniel Loebel of Western Michigan. In the afternoon match, Pura fought off Fresno State's Patrik Pech, 6-4, 6-4. Pura faces No. 17 seed Jimmy Bendeck of Baylor on Sunday in the Round of 64.
Stachowiak began the day with a 6-3, 6-3 triumph against Vinh Pham of UMKC and then blanked Texas A&M's Kevin Lam, 6-0, 6-0. Stachowiak will face No. 9 seed Maxx Lipman of Florida Sunday in the Round of 64.
Sunday concludes the prequalifying rounds before qualifying rounds start Monday. Sophomore Catalin Mateas and freshman Robert Levine will be in the qualifying draw.
