
Stachowiak Picks Up Sunday Victory

TULSA, Okla. – The Duke men's tennis team wrapped up its participation in the Saint Francis Health System ITA Men's All-American Championships prequalilfying draw Sunday with one victory and two losses. Senior TJ Pura bowed out of the event with a Sunday defeat while freshman Nick Stachowiak went 1-1, advancing to the final round of the prequalifying.
Pura suffered a 6-3, 6-0 setback to No. 17 seed Jimmy Bendeck of Baylor to end Pura's run at the event in the Round of 64. Pura owns a 4-3 singles mark following the first two tournaments of the campaign.
Stachowiak began Sunday with a hard-fought 7-6 (5), 6-0 victory against No. 9 seed Maxx Lipman of Florida in the Round of 64. In the Round of 32, Stachowiak ended his run against Alex Keyser of Columbia with a 6-2, 6-1 loss. With the Sunday split, Stachowiak leads Duke with six fall singles wins and owns a 6-2 overall record.
Sophomore Catalin Mateas and freshman Robert Levine will take part in the All-American qualifying draw, which begins Monday. The main draw of the event starts Thursday, with junior Nicolas Alvarez already in the field.
