DURHAM, N.C. – Duke University women's basketball head coach
Joanne P. McCallie announced Monday the signing of junior guard Lexie Brown. Brown will sit out the 2015-16 campaign due to NCAA transfer rules and will have two years of eligibility remaining beginning with the 2016-17 season.
“Lexie is an incredible student-athlete,” commented McCallie. “She is highly motivated to pursue academics and basketball at the highest level in the ACC. We are thrilled to welcome her to the Duke family.”
A 5-9 guard from Suwanee, Ga., Brown played the last two seasons at Maryland where she was a 2015 Associated Press Third Team All-America, All-Big Ten First Team, All-Big Ten Defensive Team and Big Ten Tournament Most Outstanding Player as a sophomore. Brown averaged 13.3 points, 4.5 assists, 3.3 rebounds and 2.2 steals, while draining 69 three-pointers.
Brown started all 36 contests and averaged 31.6 minutes as a sophomore guiding the Terrapins to a second straight NCAA Final Four appearance. She totaled six games with 20 or more points, including a season-high 27 points against Michigan State in the Big Ten Tournament. Brown drained at least one three-pointer in 33 games, including a season-high five against Princeton in the NCAA Tournament.
As a freshman, Brown averaged 10.1 points, 4.3 assists, 1.9 rebounds and 1.4 steals as she started 30-of-34 games. She hit 51 treys, including a career-high seven at Syracuse on eight attempts. Over the final six games of the season, Brown averaged 14.3 points, 4.5 assists and 1.5 steals. Brown was an All-ACC Freshman Team selection, NCAA Tournament All-Region honoree and was a Naismith and Wooden Award candidate for National Player of the Year.
Brown is a two-time Nancy Lieberman Award watch list selection, a 2015 Academic All-Big Ten and 2014 All-ACC Academic Team honoree. She hit a combined 120 three-pointers in two years, while averaging 11.8 points a contest at Maryland.
