DURHAM, N.C. – GoDuke.com recently sat down with senior midfielder Taylor Trimble to discuss her career at Duke.
GoDuke.com: Where has been your favorite place to compete over the past four years?
Taylor Trimble: There's nothing better than playing in Koskinen, especially with the huge improvements with Kennedy Tower and the video board. It's the best facility in the country.
GoDuke.com: What does it mean to you to represent Duke University?
TT: For me, it's not just representing Duke lacrosse – it's representing all of Duke. That's such a cool thing. When you say you go to Duke, you catch people's eye. They know what that means. As a Duke athlete, we take so much pride in the work we put in and also in the other teams. We're representing the legacy that all the other Duke teams have left too. It's representing the whole Duke family – the powerful athletics, the powerful academics, the reputation Duke has – I feel like it's all of those things. It's representing something way bigger than yourself and it's just the best feeling, wearing a Duke jersey.
GoDuke.com: What has been your proudest academic achievement at Duke?
TT: I'm really proud of being a public policy major and having a Markets and Management certificate. Public policy is a demanding major at Duke. I'm proud of myself for maintaining a high GPA while being a pub pol major and challenging myself with those courses. I wanted to be challenged, and I think public policy was a great major.
GoDuke.com: What is a road trip memory that sticks out to you?
TT: Spring break my freshman year, making the “Call Me Maybe” video. We were on a road trip to Princeton and Stony Brook and it was so cold. We didn't have a lot of school work and it was the first time I had experienced a long road trip. Making that video was so much fun and then it turned into kind of an epidemic with other teams wanting to make their own version. In general, the road trips where we didn't have a ton of school work and distractions and really just could bond and have so much fun are my favorite memories.
GoDuke.com: What is something you're going to miss when you graduate?
TT: I'm going to miss game day. As much as it's such a part of our life now, going to team meal and going over the scouting report – I'm going to miss that routine. I'm going to miss when the whistle blows on Koskinen, that's just something that you'll never have again. I can come back to Duke, I can hang out with my teammates, but you'll never have that same team dynamic again. It comes down to being with my teammates on the field and competing.
GoDuke.com: Can you talk about your fellow members of the senior class and how you all have bonded over your four years here?
TT: It's so fun being a senior and seeing everyone really contribute. We all joke that we're such different personalities and yet we work so well together when it comes to lacrosse. That's a common thread that we care about so much. We never feel like any one of us is more invested than the other. We realize that we all bring different things to the table but we value that. It's been really fun to do well this season and see how everyone has contributed to that.
GoDuke.com: What are your three favorite restaurants in Durham?
TT: Revolution – kind of more upscale but really good. NanaTaco – that's my go to. And then I'd have to say Vin Rouge or Mateo. I love the restaurants in Durham. They're so unique.
