LEON, MEXICO -- Former Duke standout Wes Roach fired a final round 68 (-4) Sunday to capture his first career Web.com Tour victory with a 17-under 271 at El Bosque Golf Club. The Knoxville, Tenn., native finished four shots better than Kevin Tway and Patton Kizzire to grab medalist honors at the El Bosque Mexico Championship.
Roach carded rounds of 67, 71, 65 and 68 to make his way to the winner's circle. He collected six birdies, 12 pars and two bogeys en route to a four-under 68 in the final round. Roach distanced himself from the rest of the field with four birdies over a five-hole stretch (No, 8-12) and polished off the round with five straight pars.
“It was a pretty great feeling when I tapped in on the last hole,” said Roach. “My first win as a professional and my first on the Web.com Tour is pretty special. I feel great. Inside I was going crazy all day but I kept telling myself to believe and trust in what I was doing. This means so much and hopefully it helps me get back to the PGA TOUR next year.”
Roach picked up a check for $126,000 and vaulted from No. 37 to No. 2 on the money list with the victory.
