DURHAM, N.C.—Duke has been selected to finish second in the 2016 ACC Men's Lacrosse Preseason Poll and Blue Devils seniors Deemer Class and Myles Jones were voted to the preseason All-ACC squad. The announcement comes in conjunction Inside Lacrosse's release of its annual Face-Off Yearbook.
The Fighting Irish received 25 points in balloting among the ACC's five head coaches. Duke followed with 15 points and was selected second. Syracuse (13) and Virginia (13) tied for third, and North Carolina (9) was selected fifth.
Class and Jones were joined by Notre Dame's Sergio Perkovic as midfielders selected to the preseason squad. The Fighting Irish led the way with three picks to the team, while North Carolina and Syracuse also had two apiece like the Blue Devils. The dynamic duo of Class and Jones has combined for 299 points from 177 goals and 122 assists during their careers.
Jones, the 2015 Lt. j.g. Donald MacLaughlin Jr. Award winner, is coming off of a record-breaking junior season of 40 goals and 37 assists for 77 points. He holds the Duke single season and career records for points by a midfielder with 77 and 161, respectively. The 77 points are 11th in Duke single season history and his 161 points are 21st among all Blue Devils.
A two-time All-American, Class registered 34 goals and 19 assists for 53 points his junior season. He has run on the top midfield line the previous two seasons and has 138 career points. He ranks 28th on the Duke career points list and is on pace with Jones to become the second Duke midfielder to reach 100 career goals.
The 2016 men's lacrosse season gets underway in early February. The ACC Men's Lacrosse Championship will be played April 29 - May 1 at Fifth Third Bank Stadium at Kennesaw State University in Kennesaw, Georgia. The semifinals are set for Friday, April 29, and the championship for Sunday, May 1. The fifth-place ACC team that does not qualify for the championship will play Brown at Fifth Third Bank Stadium on Saturday, April 30.
