Karen Sutton, 1996-99
A member of Duke's first varsity team in 1996, Sutton remains ranked among the program's all-time leaders in goals (16), assists (5) and points (21). The midfielder from Columbia, Md., started 66 contests over her career, garnering second team IWLCA All-South Region recognition and ACC All-Tournament Team honors in 1998. As a three-year captain, she guided the Blue Devils to their first NCAA Tournament appearance in the program's third season and a trip to the national semifinals in 1999. Sutton graduated from the university with distinction in 1998, receiving her degree in chemistry, before going on to graduate from the University of Maryland's School of Medicine. She currently serves as an associate professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Yale University's School of Medicine and as the Head Team Orthopaedic Surgeon for the United States women's national lacrosse team.
