CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- The Duke men's cross country team returned to competition Friday, placing 10th overall with 268 points at the Panorama Farms Invitational in Charlottesville, Va.
No. 13 Virginia won the event, scoring 47 points en route to the first-place team finish.
Junior Blake Udland, competing at the Panorama Farms Invitational for the second time in his college career, paced the Blue Devils during Friday's contest, finishing 44th overall in a time of 25:15.90. Following Uldand, three Duke competitors, including junior Henry Farley, senior Brian Schoepfer and junior William Rooney crossed the line within three seconds of one another, after Farley placed 54th in a time of 25:35.38, Schoepfer placed 55th in a time of 25:35.99 and Rooney finished 56th with a time of 25:38.08. Farley and Schoepfer worked through the field over the final 3,000 meters, improving on their positions by six and four places, respectively. Freshman Matt Luppino rounded out scoring for the Blue Devils, placing 66th after clocking a time of 25:54.26.
Senior Nate McClafferty, returning to the Panorama Farms Invitational for the first time since his freshmen year, crossed the line in 73rd place with a time of 26:05.27, while sophomore Weston Carvalho placed 80th in a time of 26:18.45.
The Blue Devils, now 8-11 overall and 1-4 against conference opponents, return to competition in two weeks, traveling to Charlotte, N.C., for the Royals Challenge Oct. 11.
