DURHAM, N.C. – Duke University sophomore Peter Kropp earned additional recognition for his performances at last weekend's Janis Hape Dowd Nike Cup Invitational, collecting Ronald McDonald House Charities Duke Student-Athlete of the Week recognition after also being tabbed the ACC Male Swimmer of the Week.
Kropp, who hails from Los Angeles, secured a trip to the 2015 NCAA Div. I Men's Swimming and Diving Championship next spring in Iowa City, Iowa with a 52.02 swim in the 100-yard breaststroke preliminaries last Friday. The mark also broke the previous ACC record of 52.59 set by Notre Dame's Zach Stephens last year and surpassed program, meet and facility benchmarks as well.
Kropp clocked 1:56.73 in the 200 breaststroke preliminaries for the nation's 11th-fastest time and competed on a pair of Blue Devil relays at the Nike Cup Invitational, guiding the 400 medley relay to a top-five mark in school history (3:16.12). He also helped the 200 medley relay recorded the sixth-fastest time at Duke (1:28.60).
The Duke swimmers resume competition Saturday, Jan. 10 when they welcome South Carolina and Harvard to Taishoff Aquatics Pavilion.
