Kathryn Hagglund joined the Duke rowing staff in July, 2011 as an assistant coach. She was promoted to Duke's recruiting coordinator and head varsity assistant coach in July, 2013.
Prior to her elevation as varsity assistant and recruiting coordinator, Hagglund oversaw Duke's novice unit. In her first season, she oversaw a novice squad that captured a third-place finish in the novice eight at the ACC Championships. From her first novice team, five rowers went on to join the varsity squad for the 2012-13 season, including Nicole Antoine, Sophia Staal and Caroline Williams who now row with Duke's 2V8.
A native of London, Ontario, Hagglund came to Duke after spending time as a graduate assistant at her alma mater, the University of Louisville. Hagglund received her bachelor's degree ('08) in Exercise Science with a minor in Community Health and later earned her master's degree ('11) in Exercise Physiology.
A former standout for the Louisville Cardinals' rowing team, Hagglund was a member of the squad for four years, serving as team captain from 2005-2008. During her tenure, Hagglund was named to the CanAmMex Junior National Team, Selection Camp U23 Canadian National Team and was the 2007 Big East Champion in the Second Varsity Eight while helping the Cardinals' program to a top national ranking.
In 2008, Hagglund served as assistant men's and women's rowing coach at St. Lawrence University for the 2008-09 season where she was a member of the 2009 Liberty League Coaching Staff of the Year after helping the Saints receive a bid to the 2009 NCAA Division III Championships which was their second appearance in school history finishing seventh overall.
In 2010, Hagglund decided to return to her alma mater to be a graduate assistant and to receive her master's degree.
In 2011, Hagglund was a member of the Big East Coaching Staff of the Year after guiding the Cardinals to a second place finish in the third varsity eight and second overall as a team at the Big East Championships.
Hagglund currently resides in Durham where she enjoys triathlons, hiking, traveling, and baking.
