The Duke men's team will take on the 2011-12 U.S. National Team on Sunday, Oct. 9 at 11 a.m. The U.S. will be coached by former Blue Devil All-American Kevin Cassese. Cassese captained the squad that captured the 2010 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) World Championship. Recent Duke graduates Ned Crotty and Matt Danowski will don the red, white and blue. Crotty won the 2010 Tewaaraton Trophy and was a two-time first team All-American, while Danowski captured the 2008 Tewaaraton Trophy and earned first team All-America accolades three times.
Under the direction of sixth-year head coach John Danowski, the Blue Devils welcome eight freshmen to the team. Duke returns 32 players, including four All-America choices, from last year's squad that finished 14-6 and advanced to the NCAA semifinals.
The women's senior team will take on North Carolina in Navy over the course of the weekend. The Tar Heels will play the U.S. on Oct. 8 a 5 and 7 p.m., while Navy will play on Oct. 9 at 9 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Former Blue Devils women's players featured on the U.S. squad will be Sarah Bullard and Megan Huether.
In addition to playing, both U.S. men's and women's teams will host National Team Player Clinics for kids in grades 3-12 from 1-3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 8. The cost for each clinic is $50 if pre-registered and includes a t-shirt, poster and other opportunities to win official Team USA gear. Walk-up registration, pending availability, is $60.
