DURHAM, N.C. -Major League Lacrosse completed the 2011 regular season over the weekend and a pair of former Blue Devils led the way on the first-place squad. Max Quinzani and Brad Ross helped lead the Boston Cannons to the regular season title and the top seed in the 2011 Sports Authority Major League Lacrosse Championship Weekend, which is set for August 27 and 28 at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.
Four teams will compete in the MLL Championship Weekend. The Boston Cannons, Denver Outlaws, Hamilton Nationals and Chesapeake Bayhawks all will vie for the title. The Cannons finished the season with a 9-3 record, earning the top overall seed in the Championship Weekend. Boston will face reigning MLL champion and fourth-seeded Chesapeake Bayhawks in the first semi-final at on Aug. 27 at 12 p.m. The second semifinal begins at 3 p.m., and the title match will be on Aug. 28 at 3 p.m.
Matt Danowski, Parker McKee and Mike Ward finished up their 2011 seasons with the 5-7 Long Island Lizards, while Ned Crotty, second in the MLL with 49 points, completed his 2011 campaign with the Rochester Rattlers.
Max Quinzani - A - Boston Cannons
A 2011 All-Star selection... played in 11 games for the No. 1 Boston Cannons...third on the team and eighth in the league in scoring with 22 goals and 10 assists for 32 points...ranks third in assists and goals on the team...has tallied three hat ticks...owns two game-winning goals...scored a season-high six points (3g, 3a) in win over Chesapeake on June 4...scored at least one point in all 11 games.
Brad Ross - M - Boston Cannons
A 2011 All-Star selection...played in all 12 games for the No.1 Boston Cannons...recorded 19 goals, including four two-point goals, and six assists for 29 points...ranks fourth on the team in points and fifth in goals and assists... is having his most productive year, totaling more goals, assists and points...netted three game-winning goals, recording the second and third in the last two games of the season...has tallied three hat tricks...scored a pair of two-point goals in win over Long Island...had a season-high six points (3g, 1a) in win over the Lizards on June 11...has at least two points in nine of 12 games.
Matt Danowski - A - Long Island Lizards
A 2011 All-Star selection...played in all 12 games for Long Island...tallied 23 goals, including a league-high seven two-point goals, and 11 assists for 41 points...ranks fourth in the MLL in points, fifth in goals and eighth in assists...has at least two points in all 12 games...registered a season-high five points in wins over Rochester on May 21 and July 28...netted a pair of two-point goals in Denver on June 25...led the league with seven two-point goals ... has four hat tricks for the season, two of which were in two of the last three games of the season...recorded two game-winning goals.
Parker McKee - D - Long Island Lizards
Played in nine games...tallied two assists...ranks sixth on the team with 25 ground balls...picked up a season-high seven ground balls against Rochester on July 28...corralled four loose balls versus Boson on May 14...recorded an assist in win over Rattlers and in the final game of the season against Denver.
Mike Ward - M - Long Island Lizards
A 2011 All-Star selection...played in six games for the Lizards...dished out two assists and picked up nine ground balls...handed out assists against Chesapeake on June 16 and Denver on June 3...picked up three ground balls against Chesapeake and Denver.
Ned Crotty - A - Rochester Rattlers
A 2011 All-Star selection...led the Rattlers with 29 goals and 20 assists for 49 points...ranks first in assists, second in points and third in goals in the MLL...scored 23 percent of Rochester's points this season... scored a season-high seven points from five goals and two assists against Hamilton on June 10...tallied five hat tricks for the year...registered at least two points in all 12 games...netted two-plus goals in nine contests...handed out a season-best four assists at Hamilton on June 25...recorded a game-winning goal against Denver on July 23.
