LOS ANGELES - Two-time NCAA champion Nick McCrory added to his collection of honors Sunday, capturing the gold in the men's 10-meter event on the final day of competition at the AT&T National Diving Championships.
McCrory led the field through the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds heading into Sunday's final. He totaled 497.35 points in the final round after scoring 90-plus points on each of his first three dives. McCrory scored 91.20 points on an inward 3 ½ that garnered 10s from two judges, in addition to a double back somersault with 2 ½ twists that earned him 91.80 points.
David Boudia claimed the silver medal with a score of 469.90 points, while Ben Grado totaled 431.05 points to come in third.
The gold medal performance at the national championships marks the continuation of a busy summer for McCrory, who took sixth in the platform at last month's FINA World Championships in Shanghai, China.
"Fortunately I was able to recover from worlds and get ready for nationals," he said. "I was feeling a little fatigued today, but I'm glad I competed."
Earlier in the week, McCrory and Boudia led the field through the preliminaries of the men's 10-meter synchro, but were forced to withdraw before the final round with Boudia citing physical fatigue.
After finishing sixth in the women's one-meter competition at the FINA World Championships, Abby Johnston also returned to action at nationals.
Johnston took part in the women's three-meter springboard competition, finishing 28th in the quarterfinal round with a score of 216.60.
