"We've targeted leaders in lacrosse who are passionate about developing the game by sharing their knowledge with coaches and officials at the youth and high school levels," said Beth Porreca, director of events at US Lacrosse.
Danowski, the head men's lacrosse coach at Duke who guided the Blue Devils to the 2010 NCAA championship, will host "Warmups the Blue Devil Way" at 3 p.m. Jan. 14. Danowski enters his sixth season at Duke having taken the Blue Devils to the final four in each of his first five seasons. He was named the 2007 Lacrosse Magazine Person of the Year.
Kimel, the head women's lacrosse coach at Duke since the program's 1996 inception, will participate in "Communication Panel" alongside women's lacrosse coaches and umpires at 11:30 a.m. Jan. 15. Panelists will discuss ways for coaches and umpires to communicate effectively and appropriately during a game. The session is open to both coaches and umpires. Kimel has directed the Blue Devils to 14 consecutive appearances in the NCAA tournament.
Dale, director of sport psychology and leadership at Duke, will host "It's a Mental Thing: Five Keys to Helping Athletes Enhance their Performance and Enjoy Lacrosse" at 4 p.m. Jan. 13. The interactive workshop will provide coaches with strategies they can use to enhance the mental toughness and team-first mentality of the athletes they coach. Particular emphasis will be on commitment, confidence, embracing pressure, overcoming adversity and enjoying the process. Coaches will leave the workshop with concrete tools they can use with individual athletes and teams. Dale is currently the mental training coach for the men's and women's lacrosse teams at Duke and previously coached high school lacrosse.
Lacrosse coaches, officials and administrators can register for the convention online at www.uslacrosse.org/2012convention , http://www.uslacrosse.org/2012convention before Dec. 28 for $105, a savings of $45 on the walk-up price. Registration includes pre-event access to speaker materials and post-event access to video of all convention presentations (a $300 value). Herm Edwards, a nine-year defensive back with the NFL's Philadelphia Eagles and later the head coach of the New York Jets and Kansas City Chiefs, will deliver the keynote address at 7 p.m. Jan. 13.
The US Lacrosse National Convention annually draws some 5,000 participants, and it includes three live demonstration areas, approximately 150 educational sessions, and Fan Fest, a portion of events open to the public inside the sport's largest exposition hall. Fan Fest tickets will be sold onsite at the convention center to the general public for $10 and to lacrosse players wearing team jerseys for just $5. Children 6 and under will be admitted free to Fan Fest, which runs 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 14, and will include demonstrations and autographs by players from the U.S. National Teams and the Philadelphia Wings.
