The 2010 Duke men's lacrosse team captured its first NCAA Championship in dramatic fashion, beating Notre Dame 6-5 in overtime. The title marked the first time in Duke athletics history the Blue Devils have won two team national titles in a single year.
Ranked eighth in the latest coaches poll, Duke is coming off of a 1-0-1 opening weekend. The Blue Devils captured top honors in the Duke/Nike Classic after defeating Sacramento State 4-1 behind sophomore Ryan Finley's hat trick. Sophomore goaltender James Belshaw was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player, while Finley, Andrew Wenger and Cole Grossman joined him on the All-Tournament Team.
Virginia enters the game with a 2-0-0 record, dispatching UAB 2-1 and St. John's 5-0 this past weekend. The 2009 NCAA Champion, the Cavaliers return a talented squad, including three preseason All-America choices. They were picked to finish third in the ACC, while Duke was picked fifth.
