With former Blue Devil Zack Greer helping lead the team, Canada posted a 5-0-0 record to win the group. Under the leadership of Kevin Cassese, Ned Crotty and Matt Zash, the United States posted a 4-0-1 record with its lone loss coming against Canada. Poland finished second in the Green division with a 2-0-1 record.
In the final two games of the opening round, Canada defeated Germany 23-4 and England 17-6. The US squad cruised to a 17-5 victory over England and triumphed over Japan 19-5. Canada will play an opponent to be determined on July 22 at 1:30 p.m., (EST), while the United States will square off against its next foe at 2:30 p.m., on July 22.
For the tournament, Greer leads all scorers for his squad with nine goals and eight assists for 17 points. His 17 points is 19th among players in the tournament. Crotty has seven goals and 10 points overall, while Zash has six points (3g, 3a) Cassese has five (4g, 1a) through the first five games. Coveleski currently is tied for the lead in points with 26 from 23 goals and three assists.
